Inspired by the transformative journey of Western art, where the emphasis shifted from portraiture to the expansive beauty of landscapes, I delve into the potential of ceramic glaze as a standalone medium for artistic expression. Just as nature became the heart of artistic exploration, my research focuses on using glaze-not merely as decoration, but as the very essence of my work. In "Within Layers Upon Layers of Mountains," I employ glaze to evoke the dense, undulating mountain ranges of Korea, capturing their beauty and emotional depth reminiscent of traditional Korean landscape paintings, such as Jeong Seon's celebrated Geumgangsan. This unique technique, rooted in my background in Ceramic Engineering, allows me to shape forms entirely from glaze, eschewing the conventional clay base.
